With their small world thrown into chaos, the people look to the military to prevent their grisly deaths. Excited cadets sign up for inclusion through the racketeer, and upon graduation, they will be promoted to one of three regiments.
Regimental insignia (left-right): Garrison Regiment, Military Police & Scout Regiment.
The Garrison Regiment was in charge of guarding the walls. They were the first line of defense in case of a breach, and if they lost, they had to evacuate the townspeople. In times of calm, some members are notoriously lazy and drunk.
Meanwhile, the Scout Regiment has the ominous task of venturing beyond the safety of the walls, hunting and studying Titans in their natural habitat. Only the most daring and/or foolish needs prevail, because the average lifespan is very short.
The top 10 graduates are given a third choice, enlisting with the Military Police if they wish. These warriors were considered the most elite, maintaining order within the inner walls of the city. Due to its convenient position, this regiment was unfortunately riddled with corruption.
But what's the best way to thwart the Titans themselves? They are unlikely to be felled with a swaying hard finger or a hefty fine. The most versatile tools for the job are omni-directional mobility equipment, commonly referred to as ODM equipment. Using this, soldiers could propel themselves through the air, clinging to surfaces with hooks connected to equipment. This requires tall objects to optimize their use, and consumes a large amount of gas in a short period of time.
In hand, the soldier holds a pair of detachable knives. They were strong enough to pierce through Titan's flesh and fast enough to injure or kill several people in succession, but receiving such intense pressure quickly dulled them. Therefore, carrying several spare blades at once is very important.
Like the gas in their ODM gear, the supply of blades in the heat of battle can prove very limited, and sadly, the Titans just can't wait to give you a chance to find a replacement. At this point, the poor soldiers would soon discover how crunchy they were. Ouch.
