So maybe all of this has tickled your fancy, but you want a more upbeat anime right now? Fear not, because Attack on Titan: Junior High offers all of the above in a lively package.

This spin-off is completely out of left field, and that's undoubtedly part of its charm, lifting some of the most traumatic scenes from Attack on Titan and making them come back in chibi form.

As the title suggests, this version takes on a high school setting, taking the playful habits of the players and greatly amplifying them. The attention to detail is breathtaking (Mikasa's running form is the epitome of kawaii), and in many ways, it can even further explore the personalities of minor characters who didn't last long enough to show themselves in original AoT.

Throw in some well-known tropes from the high school comedy genre like sporting events, summer festivals, or bravery tests, and you've really got the perfect recipe for a fun, goofy anime that's super self-conscious. It's even better if you think of it as a companion part of the parody, reliving every grim death without dire consequences. People might not die in a Titan encounter here, but their reckless carnage was as oppressive as ever.

It is relentlessly like the source material, albeit in a different sense; constantly keeps you engaged with its liveliness. Even the episode previews are spoken with the same serious gravitas.

You won't stop giggling along the way. If Attack on Titan is the main course, Attack on Titan: Junior High is definitely the perfect dessert!
